The East Village Inky #59
40 pages/ Quarter size
by Ayun Halliday
New York zinester Ayun Halliday takes her son Milo to Boraomale, Italy for a weeklong music
retreat with 9 other teenagers. Along the way, Hilliday grapples with her inner demons (aptly
named “Bitchmother” and “Animal Mother”), uncooperative iPhones, and bonding with her
seventeen year-old. Halliday’s misadventures only increase once she and Milo arrive at “le
Stanze della Musica.” In Boraomale, Halliday must contend with the likes of teaching veganism
to their Italian hosts, public dancing to The Pretenders, and a portrait of John Cleeve Green.
Littered with small comics and hilarious tangents, The East Village Inky returns after a year-long
hiatus in full, charming glory.
