I created this book for my daughter Emmalee, whom we adopted from China when she was 3 years old. I made this book as a way to help her transition to becoming an American while still embracing her Chinese heritage. We painted together every day in our kitchen while I was creating the illustrations. Originally she wanted nothing to do with China, after I finished the book she declared she was "China's biggest fan!". She was 4 years old.
Through the use of symbols, rhyme and culturally relevant images, C is for China helps readers of all ages learn something new about the unique contributions Chinese culture has made to our world.
